Letošnja podelitev je bila popolnoma drugačna od prejšnjih. Združenje tujih dopisnikov iz Hollywooda je zaradi bojazni pred širjenjem omikrona sklenilo, da bo prireditev "zasebna in ne bo predvajana v živo". Tako je vse skupaj minilo brez občinstva, pa tudi brez voditelja in sprejema na rdeči preprogi. Prav tako podelitve niso predvajali na televiziji (mreža NBC je odpovedala prenost) in na spletnih platformah.
